Motorway electrification—a commentary

Abstract

Work currently in progress to examine the feasibility of powering lorries from an overhead electricity supply is examined. It is concluded that to avoid a biased outcome, all possible modes of freight transport should be assessed with respect to minimizing carbon emissions and achieving “net zero”. A multimode approach encompassing air, rail, road and water is likely to be the most adaptable to present and future requirements.
