Abstract
The first scenario looks at one way in which molecular manufacturing could appear in the context of a secret military development project. Some observers feel that this is the most likely source for the early development of advanced nanotechnology. The scenario group was given as its sole guideline the statement that nanofabrication technologies are developed no later than 2022. Everything else in the scenario came from the collective knowledge and imagination of the scenario working group.
